EBC015 Bedside Cabinet, No Locks - Polymer, Easy Clean
The Polymer Bedside Cabinet is a Department of Health-evaluated lockable storage unit ideal for patient rooms and hospital wards. It provides ample storage for patient belongings, is easy to clean for ongoing hygiene maintenance, and can also be used with patient and staff lock control options.
Whether patients are undergoing a temporary stay as an inpatient in a hospital ward or they have taken up permanent residency in a care home, it will be important that they can have access to secure storage in which to hold their personal belongings. The Polymer Bedside Cabinet provides ample bedside storage by combining three drawers of different sizes with a lower shelf for housing footwear.
As the bedside cabinet features twin-wheel braking swivel castors, it can be easily maneuvered around the building. This will make it ideal both for hospital environments where it will need to be removed for cleaning and for care homes where patient relocation may be required.
The bedside cabinet can be purchased without any locks, or it can be ordered with locks for either the upper or middle drawer, or both. The fitted lock will operate with radio frequency identification (RFID), meaning there will be no keyhole in which germs can accumulate. Ensuring the drawers are locked will help to protect patient belongings, and can also assist with a safer storage of patient medication.
The required lock combination can be selected from the drop-down menu at the top of the page. Cabinets with locks are provided with a patient card. Please note that a programming card will be required per ward or directorate as per the hospital policy.
It has been manufactured from recyclable polyethylene, which protects against liquid stains and heat marks. The smooth surfaces of the construction enable the unit to be easily cleaned, both when wiping down minor spills and for more thorough cleansing in between use. This will be paramount in medical environments where patient immune systems may be weakened.
There is a lip on the top of the drawers designed to prevent spillages from entering the drawers. This is particularly useful for when patients may have reduced dexterity or hand tremors, where the handling of drinks may result in incidental spills. Not only will this help to keep patient belongings dry and clean, but it will also reduce the need to constantly clean the inside of the unit.
The Polymer Bedside Cabinet was developed as part of the Design Bugs Out design challenge, which was run in partnership with the Department of Health (DoH). The cabinet has been evaluated by the Department of Health.
