Time: In my experience what is often not measured is time. Stretchers take time to set up, pack away and store. They also do not provide the functionality of say the Stargazer where you also get a seat for the expectant non-birthing partner, family or friends to sit whilst in the room. If another seat is in place, this then has to be moved for the stretcher, again taking time and space and you have to find storage space.
Comfort: The Stargazer chair is designed to be comfortable for sitting and sleeping. It has a supportive backrest and armrests, which can make it more comfortable for patients who need to sit for long periods of time (birthing isn’t often fast).
It’s there: Stretchers can get lost or easily removed from a department, whereas a solution that is stationary like the Stargazer has a much greater level of use and conformity, as you know it is there and all staff know how to use it rather than, “where are the stretchers” or “we have no stretchers available”. The Stargazer can also be quickly packed up, when a family needs to leave or the “sleep” is over, than can be done by the user, rather than a fold out that often needs an HCA or nurse to relocate/put away.
Safety: The Stargazer chair is designed with safety in mind, specifically for hospital settings. It has a sturdy frame and a locking mechanism to keep it in place when it's in the bed position. This can help prevent accidents and injuries, especially important in a hospital, compared to some cost effective foldouts
Convenience: The Stargazer chair is convenient to use. It can be quickly and easily converted from a chair to a bed, which can be especially important in a hospital setting where time, particularly that of staff is of the essence.
Infection control: The Stargazer meets infection control requirements, the material is able to be wiped clean and is of hospital grade. If you go with a fold out stretcher you will want to ensure the mattress meets IC standard (many off the shelf solutions do not as the mattress is permeable to be able to fold). You may find that you need a custom stretcher to meet IC requirements, and then it is likely similar in cost to the Stargazer.

Comfort Features

Deep Reflex foam cushioning to give the ultimate comfort when sitting or sleeping for long periods.

Easy pull mechanism releases the bottom section of the bed, to provide a comfortable sitting or resting position with a long leg rest.

To extend further, simply pull the base out a little further and tilt the headrest down to provide a full, flat adult length bed.

Fabric Options

All our health fabrics are Waterproof, Anti-MRSA, Anti-bacterial, Anti-fungal, Crib 5 and bleach cleanable. All cushions and cushion covers are removable for cleaning purposes.

Two years on mechanisms and frame, two years on upholstery and one year on pressure care seat cushions.

WS Medical will repair or replace at our discretion and free of charge to the original purchaser, any parts covered by this warranty and which on examination, are found to be defective in material and or workmanship. The warranty is for parts and labour only and for transportation to and from the nearest technician centre.

Warranty exclusions:

Fabric damage resulting from misuse, negligence, abuse, accident or incorrect cleaning
Unauthorised or incorrect repairs, alterations and modifications
Damage to the chair from misuse, negligence, abuse or accident
Damage caused from normal wear and tear
Damage caused by common carrier abuse or mishandling and any special, indirect incidental and/or consequential damages
Replacement of the battery if the battery is left to completely discharge
