Features

Promotes effective pressure care management and reduces forces of shear and
friction.

  • Options for varying levels of high-quality immersion through our range of cushion selections. (Healthcare and riser recliner chairs seating – Tagged "Pressure Relieving Cushions"– WS Medical (2004) Limited). And can also accommodate
    alternative cushion options selected by clinicians.
  • The tilt in space function can be controlled independently and combined with slight knee break function and independent back recline it can facilitate immersion across the full surface area to manage pressure relief.
  • Inbuilt memory foam chaise combined with 4-way stretch material cover – provides effective immersion through both the seat and the leg support while also managing the effects of shear during the tilt process.
  • The contoured back cushions can be adjusted as needed to promote seated stability and trunk support while also providing immersion and pressure care.
  • Multiple custom fit options available to ensure effective positioning support and immersion. (Seating depth adjustment, large profile headrest, soft lateral support – WS Medical (2004) Limited). Includes wedges and deep contour leg support as well as additional knee support where ROM is limited.
  • The optional foot support is angle and height adjustable, providing additional support to the feet as needed.
  • Works well with full hoist transfers. We recommend lowering clients onto the chair in the tilted position to facilitate ease of postural adjustments and comfort when transferring into the chair.

  • The independent tilt in space and separate back recline functions can provide pressure relief, promote circulation, improve head, neck and trunk control, improve functional posture and positioning, support safe transfers by various means and minimise variations / fluctuations in the client’s muscular control.
  • The leg support can be adjusted independently to provide a further range of support positions, particularly useful where the hip angle may need to be accommodated.
  • The back height can be adjusted to create effective support.
  • The seat has adjustable mounting for pelvic stability belt and the back support has capacity to support a 4-point harness support. These Body Point systems are available as an optional extra (Seating depth adjustment, large profile headrest, soft lateral support – WS Medical (2004) Limited)

  • Individual components of the chair can be repaired, modified, or replaced. Purchase replacement or new support cushions as you need them to extend the usefulness and life of your Boston Chair.
  • For ease of cleaning and replacement, all seat and back cushions are removable and have removable cushion covers.
  • High-quality medical grade fabrics are used to ensure the highest hygiene and infection control standards are maintained. Flame retardant, scratch-resistant, waterproof, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, phthalate-free.
    • The Valencia outer material is hospital grade, tested to 300,000 rubs on the Martindale test and can be cleaned with ease. 
    • Vapour Permeable Dartex® fabric is used for the seat, arm and back cushion covers. This fabric provides 4-way stretch (with no delamination) to promote immersion and prevent hammocking. The fabric has an optimal barrier against fluid ingress, allowing vapour release to maintain a healthy microclimate.

Back Height

  • The Boston Junior has the option to alter the back height. It can be increased by 51mm (2") or 102mm (4"), or reduced by 51mm (2").

Warranty

WS Medical Seating Warranty Information

WS Medical provides the following warranties, compliant with the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993:

  • Mechanisms and Frame: 2-year warranty
  • Upholstery: 2-year warranty
  • Pressure Care Seat Cushions: 1-year warranty

We will repair or replace, at our discretion and at no cost to the original purchaser, any parts covered by this warranty that are found to be defective due to faulty materials or workmanship. This warranty covers parts and labour only, provided the claim is made under the terms of this warranty.

Warranty Exclusions
The following are excluded from warranty coverage:

  • Damage to fabric caused by misuse, negligence, abuse, accidents, or improper cleaning.
  • Unauthorised or incorrect repairs, alterations, or modifications.
  • Damage to the chair resulting from misuse, negligence, abuse, accidents, or normal wear and tear.
  • Damage caused by mishandling or abuse by third-party carriers.
  • Any special, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
  • Battery replacement due to complete discharge from improper use or lack of
    maintenance.

Statutory Rights
This warranty does not limit or exclude your rights under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

Return to Base Warranty
This warranty is a return-to-base warranty. The product must be returned to WS Medical’s designated service location at Hillside Road, Auckland, for any repair or replacement claims.

The Boston Junior comes with an extensive range of key features as standard to aid pressure management, postural control and comfort. There is the option to purchase additional features and these are detailed in Optional Accessories Section.

Mechanisms

The Boston Junior is a manual model. All adjustments / movements are operated manually.

The model come with:

  • Independently operated Tilt in Space.
  • Independently operated Backrest Recline.
  • Independently operated Leg Rest.

Pressure Management Back Cushions

There is a choice of eight interchangeable and adjustable pressure management back cushions that enable the chair to be adapted to a single user’s changing needs or to adapt the chair to another user. This ensures greater longevity of its usage.

In addition, all cushions can be repositioned to suit a user’s individual seating preferences and fibres added or removed from fibre filled cushions to adjust firmness. Covers can also be removed for cleaning.

Pressure Management Seat Cushions

There is a choice of interchangeable seat cushions each with different pressure management features. You can purchase one or more cushions to support the different needs of individuals who may use this chair.

Cushions and covers are removable for cleaning and replacement. These seat cushions have four way stretch properties to aid reduction of shear and friction.

Ease Of Movement - Push Handle And Wing Handles

The Boston Junior is designed to be extremely easy to push and manoeuvre. Whilst the Boston Junior comes with the traditional heavy-duty push bar it also comes with additional easy to grip wing handles, providing a sturdy and comfortable hold, with the handles shaped and positioned to suit carers of different heights. These handles allow the chair to be easily moved and positioned even when an individual is in a fully reclined position.

Four Heavy Duty Large Lockable Castors

The Boston Junior comes with four heavy duty lockable castors designed to easily glide over low profile carpets, wooden and vinyl flooring.

Overall Weight Limits

The Boston comes as standard with an overall weight limit of 127 kg (20 stone) and with a maximum leg rest weight limit of 57 kg (9 stone).

Seat Cushion Weight Limits

The overall weight limited will be restricted when certain pressure management seat cushions such as the Airform and Celliform cushions are selected. Details of these can be found in the Seat Cushion Section. The maximum leg rest weight limit is not affected by the seat cushion selection and will always remain at 57 kg (9 stone).
